Owner - Lucinda Chapin
I am the proud owner of Children's Lighthouse in Deerwood Park. Building and opening the center in 2006 was one of the most rewarding challenges in my career that included senior management positions with Children's Home Society, SSM Healthcare, Integrated Health Services and Kimberly Quality Care. Before opening the Center, I completed an Advanced Director's Credential that would allow me to be very involved in the day to day operation of the Center.
After completing an MBA at the University of Nebraska, I spent much of my career in healthcare services. I was raised in a family of educators, which gives special meaning to me to participate in the education of young children. My mother was a reading specialist and taught phonics long before it was popular, so I learned to read by the time I was 5!
I am particularly interested in maintaining a center that is a happy, joyful experience for children, instills values and builds a successful start to reading. I know and believe that creating a great environment for employees goes a long way toward achieving those goals. We carefully select our teachers for qualification and experience, but most importantly, for their love of children. We value our teachers and are proud of what they accomplish each and every day. The camaraderie among staff, parents and children creates a center that has a good feel about it – and is noticeable immediately when entering the building.
In addition to my love of children, I also love animals and am a founder of Pawsitive Pets, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides pet assisted therapy animals and promotes the R.E.A.D. (Reading Education Assistance Dogs) program in Jacksonville. (www.pawsitivepets.org) I am pictured left with my first pet assisted therapy dog, Lindsey. Dog agility is one of my joys and passions and I am an avid competitor. I serve as the President of Deerwood Park Property Owner's Association and am active in local business organizations.
